DAY 4 OF 6

Have you ever gotten a gift and replied, “Oooh, I love it!!” (but really, you didn’t)? Or have you ever told someone you’re doing fine, when really you were angry with them?

You might be thinking, “Yeah, I’ve done something like that. Just a little white lie, no big deal!”

Maybe so, if we’re using our own logic to rationalize it. But God’s perspective is different. In fact, Proverbs 6:16-19 says, “These six things the Lord hates… a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among people.” Did you catch that? God HATES lying. Actually, he says so TWICE!

Think of it this way: if someone did something you hated, something you absolutely despised, would it impact your relationship with that person? Absolutely!

Our relationship with God suffers when we allow the stronghold of telling lies in our life…even little white ones.

But what about this: Have you ever believed that voice in your head that says, “You’ve messed up too bad this time…God will never love you now”? Or “What I have to say doesn’t matter.” Or how about, “I’m not good enough for [fill in the blank]”?

The lies we believe can also impact our relationship with God. It is not possible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18). He is only capable of truth. Getting wrapped up believing a lie draws us away from Him—The Truth; it interferes with our connection to God.

In both cases, telling a lie or believing Satan’s lies, lying is a stronghold. If we want to deepen our relationship with Christ, we must cling to the source of Truth, Jesus (John 14:6).
