FortLife

DAY 2 OF 6

I am a proud person, I think everyone can be, in a sense. It’s ok to be proud of your accomplishments. It’s when you start to hunger for the glory and boast in it that it can become a stronghold.

Along with being prideful, I am a perfectionist. I want everything to be perfect: my home, my writing, my life. But it isn’t a reality, because first, there was only one perfect human being and that was Christ.

Secondly, I deal with anxiety and depression. What does this have to do with pride, you ask? Life can be going great and look good from the outside. I am handling everything life can throw at me with a smile on my face. I start to feel pretty proud that I am doing life so well. Then I have a panic attack and the darkness starts to close in around me. Suddenly life doesn’t look so perfect. It is in those times of darkness that God reminds me that a fall comes with pride.

In Daniel 4, King Nebuchadnezzar went up to his roof top and was so proud of what “he” had created. His kingdom, his household, his army. God reminded him, in a not so gentle way, that Nebuchadnezzar didn’t do all of that. God did. It is in the moments when I think, “I got this” that God reminds me that “I” don’t, “He” does.

Paul writes, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength” and “if you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”. It is ok to be proud of your accomplishments as long as you remember and give glory to the One who made them happen.
