Day 1 of 6 • This day’s reading

Day 1-What is a Fortress?

2 Samuel 22:2 says, “And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;”.

What exactly is a fortress? gives this definition:

a large fortified place; a fort or group of forts, often including a town; citadel. any place of exceptional security; stronghold.

This means that a fortress is a place of safety where you do not need to be afraid. We see in Psalm 18: 2 that David was not afraid. He trusted that God was going to always be there for him.

But sometimes in our lives we are the ones who build the fortresses. We can build a fortress or stronghold around some area of our life where we do not want to let God in. This might be an addiction issue or some sin that you are holding on to. These fortresses keep us from leading the full life that Christ wants us to lead.

It is important that we consistently look for them in our heart and ask Christ to help us tear them down.  We have that power through Christ Jesus to defeat the strongholds that Satan has helped build in our hearts. God’s power is greater than any stronghold we can build up and he can help tear it down. Pray for God to show you the strongholds in your heart today.
