#JESUS2019 - Daily DevotionalsSample

Jesus says: “I am the truth.” But this truth that came in the shape of a person has a purpose. It wants to free us from lies. Jesus’ main concern was that his disciples, you and I, should know the truth. John 8:32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
On 26 December 2004, I was in Florida with my family when one of the worst seaquakes in recent history occurred. We were scared, because we thought the Atlantic might become a deadly trap: we knew that in the Indian Ocean a submarine megathrust earthquake with a magnitude of 9.1 had occurred. About 230,000 people died and around 1.7 million coastal inhabitants became homeless. I have seen countless documentaries on this. And I often wonder why so many lives were lost. There are multiple reasons. One reason was the passivity of the spectators. People on the beaches kept on playing in the sea even as it retreated, walking directly into the death zone. In addition, knowledge on tsunamis was lacking. People didn’t know how to react. Thirdly, the warning instruments were missing. Only a few minutes after the seaquake, scientists in Australia already knew about the deadly danger of the wave. Most of the victims could have been saved, had they been warned. There would have been enough time to do this. What can we learn from this?
The Holy Spirit is our early warning system. If we take the signals seriously, we can react accordingly. The truth that sets us free is also the one that reveals facts to us that we don’t see. However, if we remain passive and indifferent, the deadly waves can hit us. If we ignore the voice of the Holy Spirit, we rob ourselves of freedom. Because we receive freedom when we face the truth. He wants to give us the truth when we really look - and don’t look away. We have to recognize the lies and gain knowledge of how the enemy wants to paralyze us. This is why reading the Bible daily is a necessary ritual for us to be warned of new and different Tsunamis, which can bring us and others into deadly danger.
ACTION STEP:
Learn to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Write down all signals (flashes of inspiration, dreams, words from scripture, people) which you think come from God.

About this Plan

During the weeks before Easter, we want to acquire deeper understanding of this fundamental event of our faith, get to know Jesus better and experience how his loving deed on the cross can change our lives forever. We will take a closer look at Jesus’ 7 “I am” statements and by doing this, we will find out who Jesus is and what he has to offer us in deeper ways.
