#JESUS2019 - Daily DevotionalsSample

In John 14:6 Jesus says: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” A few years ago, my wife and I bought a house. It’s just below my father’s house. My parents became our neighbors. One day I built a path to be able to go up to my parents’ place really quickly without having to make a long detour. So everybody was happy that the path to Dad became easier for everyone. When I was building the path, the sun was burning down on my skin, the work made me sweat and it was exhausting, because the heavy concrete stairs had to be perfectly aligned. My mother sat on her rollator that day and watched me. Again and again she encouraged me and thanked me for building the path. But that was her last day in that house. For on the same day she was taken to the hospital as an emergency by helicopter and she died a few days later. Today the path still reminds me of my mother’s joy. She was so happy about this path. This is a wonderful feeling. My father is already over 90 years old, but I love having him around me.
It’s the same with our heavenly father. He sent his son to make a path. He, however, had to give up his life for it. So he gave away his most precious possession. He paid the price with his own blood. However, now the path is built, it is there once and for all. Everybody who walks on it can now come into God’s presence. For the presence of God is the most wonderful thing that can be experienced in life.
The song writer expresses this wonderfully in Psalm 84:10 “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”
ACTION STEP:
Have you already discovered the path to the father? When do you feel pulled towards the father? Thank him today for what you treasure most about his presence.
