DAY 5 OF 9

Trust God, Not Numbers

Gideon’s decision to obey God’s call attracted many people to support his cause. But many did so more to save face than out of a sense of duty. You will also experience this when you decide to obey God’s call for your life. Some may volunteer to help you, not because they believe in what God is doing through you but out of a sense of guilt. This is not the support God wants us to have, and that was why He had to teach Gideon not to trust in numbers but to trust in Him, alone.

As visionaries, we sometimes make the mistake that we need to garner support from people to achieve our goals. But Gideon soon realised that this was not the case when God cut his support network from 32 thousand to 10 thousand.

David was someone who understood this. His dependence was always in God – regardless of his support network. For this reason, he did not need to compromise like Saul did to keep the people happy. He knew that even if the people deserted him, God will not – and that was more than sufficient to be victorious.

Like Gideon and David, we too must learn not to depend on numbers, but to depend on God.
