DAY 5 OF 5

Connection

Through this plan we have talked about how technology can cause problems. It can cause isolation, discontentment, addiction and comparison. It may sound like technology is this horrible problem and we should rid our lives of it so we can fully live for Christ…. But that’s not what we are telling you, so don’t worry: you can keep your phones, Snapchat, and Instagram accounts. What we are telling you is to be cautious with how you use your devices and to start using it to spread the news of His love.

We mindlessly spend time scrolling through “feeds” and posting funny pictures and videos, but what good is this doing? Are you bringing any change or light into the world or are you just adding hurt and darkness?

See, we should not use technology just for entertainment but for spreading the “Good News”, the “Gospel” to the world. We all have those friends who flood our news feeds with memes, so flood the world with light as Paul prayed. In Ephesians Paul wrote,

“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called- his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” -Eph 1:18 NLT

Paul prayed for the people of Ephesus to have hearts flooded with light and hope. That they would be gushing over with light. This means that you cannot contain your faith, so let it flow. Let’s flood Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat with a message of hope! Share Scriptures, send a message of encouragement, post your favorite worship song. I get it, you don’t want to be, “that friend” who people start to avoid because of your “religion”. But what better way to be a friend than to give them the good news so that they can be in the Light and no longer in darkness?

The final challenge is this: share this devotion. Post the link to all of your social media accounts and add a message of encouragement. You never know which of your friends are struggling with isolation, discontentment, or addiction. Maybe all they need is a little light from a friend to show them the way to the Father who can set them free.

About this Plan

De:Vice

Technology can be a great thing in so many ways, but what are some ways technology can pull us away from God? In this teen study, you’ll learn different ways our devices can become a ‘vice’ in our lives, and each day you’ll learn ways you can restore your relationship with God!
