New Vision, Revelation and Understanding
Reading: Daniel 10:1-12
Key Verse: “On the twenty fourth day of the first month ... I looked up and there before me was a man” v.4
Daniel was one of the young men taken captive in Jerusalem and forcibly transported to Babylon to serve a foreign ruler. Like Joseph before him, Daniel flourished as he gave the best of himself even though he was in an alien culture. Wherever we are, God is with us whether it’s a palace or a prison, a throne or a cell. Daniel was pre-eminently a man of prayer and even when famously threatened with a den of lions, he refused to renege on his faith.
During the first few days of the New Year Daniel had been praying to gain understanding and humbling himself before God (v.12). Now three weeks later on the twenty fourth day of the month he had a vision of an angel and received a revelation from God. Revelation is the word we use to describe understanding that comes from God as compared to logic or intuition that comes from the human mind. For example, Peter received a revelation of who Jesus is supernaturally from the Father (Matt.16:13-17). At the beginning of this New Year, let us be like Daniel by humbling ourselves before God and praying for a deeper understanding of Him and His ways.
Prayer: Father I humble myself before You and pray for greater understanding of You and Your ways
