All Things New

Reading: 2 Cor.5:17-21

Key Verse: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” v.17

January and particularly January 1st is a time when we look to the New Year ahead and make resolutions for a New Beginning in our lives. We seek to change our lives for the better by making such resolutions as to lose weight, join a gym, give up bad habits and take up new challenges. As far as God is concerned there are no “special days” (Rom.14:5-6). However, He has set the sun in the sky to mark seasons and years for us as points of reference (Gen.1:14). 

You will be interested to note in this devotional just how many God inspired spiritual initiatives began on the first day of the first month, albeit in a different calendar. Perhaps God uses mankind’s fascination with a new year to specifically motivate men and women to partner with Him in marking a new move of His Spirit.

The greatest new move of all begins when we choose to follow Jesus and receive Him into our lives as Saviour, Friend and Lord. At that point, our old lives are left behind as we embrace a new guilt-free way of living in relationship with God.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that I am a new guilt free person in Jesus!
