Black and White or Colour?

Reading: Matt.5:13-16

A friend of mine often talks about visiting his relatives. For years they would sit around a television watching the screen in only black and white. Then one day as someone walked past the television they bumped into it and suddenly the picture changed from black and white to colour! The TV was always capable of showing colour but it had been set up incorrectly to only show black and white. Some Christians are like that. God has set them up with a new life in Christ to bring out the God flavours and God colours in the world. But their faith is lived out in a dull, grey, black and white version of Christianity.

When the Israelites entered the Promised Land many of the tribes had settled for comfort just within the border rather than fulfilling their calling and experiencing the richness of the land God had given them. In Joshua 18, Joshua himself rebukes seven tribes who were yet to fully enjoy their God given possessions that were there for the taking. The rich new beginnings of blessings God has promised us in Christ are ours for the asking. Don’t let us settle for anything less. There is more!
