DAY 148 OF 366

Jesus cries from the cross - Finished

The word “finished” in the Greek is Teleo. It means that something has ended or been perfectly completed. But this was not a final cry of exhausted suffering from the lips of Jesus but an acclamation of victory! The word was used to refer to the completion of a task and Jesus had just completed the task of His Father to secure mankind’s salvation!

It is said that the word was also used to describe a priest making an acceptable sacrifice at the altar and of an artist completing a painting or story. The story of our salvation was completed by Jesus perfect sacrifice at the cross, which is our new altar of worship (Heb.13:10-15).

Perhaps the most interesting use of this word however was when a debt was settled.  The creditor would write Teleo across the note of the debt signifying the debt was paid in full.  If ever the debtor was accused of still owing anything he could show the note as proof of innocence. The debt we owed God for our sin is paid in full and we can show any accuser to the blood of Jesus as proof of our innocence! His blood atones for me!

Prayer: I shout a sacrifice of praise to the Lamb whose blood paid for the price of my sin!
