DAY 147 OF 366

Jesus cries from the cross - Fulfilment

Jesus cry from the cross, “I am thirsty” and the subsequent offering of wine vinegar fulfilled the Scriptural prophecy in Psalm 69:21. In fact Jesus birth, life and death fulfilled hundreds of prophetic Scriptures all the way back to Adam and Eve’s expulsion from Eden when God had promised, “he [the promised seed] will crush your [satan’s] head and you will strike his heel” (Gen.3:15). In the poetic language of Biblical prophecy, a Saviour would come to restore God’s intimate relationship with mankind by crushing a serpent, but in the process, the serpent would injure that Saviour.

On the cross, Jesus defeated and broke satan’s destructive grasp of mankind ‘s captivity to sin even though it meant His own death (Col.2:13-15, Heb.2:14-15). Jesus fulfilled not just the Scripture but the whole redemptive plan of God to rework mankind to a state of perfection, acceptance, companionship and partnership with God in ruling His creation.

Still to come was the prophetic fulfilment of Jesus resurrection, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and our own being raised to new life in Him (Rom.8:11). Like the Passover Israelites, we are not just rescued but destined to enter a new land of God’s promises.

Prayer: I worship my Saviour and Redeemer who has restored my relationship with God that I might find fulfilment in Him
