We have received atonement
Modern translations refer to “reconciliation” but to preserve the link with the Old Testament the Key verse is taken from the King James Version which uses the word “atonement”. It is said that regarding the Bible, “the New is in the Old concealed, the Old is in the New revealed”. The Old Testament annual day of Atonement is revealed in the New Testament as prophetic of the great day of eternal Atonement. In the OT one animal was sacrificed and one figuratively carried sin away so the people could be at one with God. In the NT, Jesus Himself was the sacrifice and literally carried sin away so we can be one and in union with God forever).
2 Cor.5:17 explains God made Jesus to be sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. A transfer swop has taken place of sin and righteousness. On the yearly Day of Atonement, from God’s perspective a perfect animal bore our sins and thus we became perfect and at one with God. But this was only a fore-shadow or type of the true sacrifice of Jesus who secured the eternal Atonement we commemorate and celebrate at Easter (1 John 2:1-2).
Prayer: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I rejoice that I have received the Atonement and am perfectly reconciled with You
