DAY 115 OF 366

JEHOVAH SHAMMAH

Ezekiel was a priest taken from Jerusalem to captivity in Babylon. He had a prophetic vision of the future when the Jews would return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and the city. The glory of the Lord which had once departed would return and be with them forever. Although we may see a partial fulfilment of this prophecy in Jerusalem’s reconstruction led by Zerubbabel and Nehemiah, Jesus was truly the glory of God who entered the temple and released rivers of living water of the Spirit (John 7:37-39).

What is particularly interesting is the new descriptive name of the city: JEHOVAH SHAMMAH – The Lord is Present. God is everywhere (Psalm 139) yet sometimes He specifically locates Himself in a place like the Temple (2 Chron.5:13) or with a person like David (1 Sam.16:13). The inhabitants of the city could be comforted by the understanding that God was present with them. We can be comforted and encouraged by the realisation that we are not alone because Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit as our ever present companion (John 14:16-23). We are the temple He fills with himself (1 Cor.3:16, 2 Cor.6:16). God will always be present with us (Heb.13:5-6).

Prayer: Thank You JEHOVAH SHAMMAH that You are always present with me
