DAY 114 OF 366

JEHOVAH NISSI

A banner is very much part of modern culture particularly if you attend football matches or sports events. Even nations, companies and organisations have their flags and logos as a form of identification, information and inspiration. To capture another’s flag is to defeat the enemy whilst to look at your own flag is to be rejuvenated and inspired to continue your efforts.

The context of JEHOVAH NISSI is one of battle between God’s people and their enemies. Note when Moses let down his arms the Amalekites started winning.  Moses position with uplifted hands speaks of prayer and looking to God for help (1 Tim.2:8, Psalm 121:1-2). JEHOVAH Himself becomes the banner, the source of inspiration and help to overcome in our own struggles.

The Hebrew word Nissi – banner – was used of the pole bearing the brass snake (Num.21:6-9). When an Israelite bitten by a snake looked to the banner he was healed and lived. Jesus used this as an illustration of His own death on the cross where He defeated the spiritual enemies of our souls so we could live (John 3:14-16, 8:28, Col.2:14-15).

Let’s look to Jesus on the cross – that will shoot adrenaline into our souls (Heb.12:1-3 Message).

Prayer: Jesus I look to You as my banner of identification, inspiration and victory
