Your RESET Community

Before Jesus, all we had were our own thoughts to keep our minds busy. But when Jesus died on the cross, he repaired a direct line of communication between us and God. We call this prayer.

Prayer is our access to God. We can come to him with any request at any time, and he hears us because of Jesus.

Don’t hear me wrong—God isn’t a giant vending machine. We don’t just say a few prayers and then get whatever we want. Prayer is the way we align our heart with God’s heart. When we pray, we’re saying, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done” (Matthew 6:10).

When we pray, we usually want God to change our circumstances. But often God answers by changing us. When we pray, we become more like Jesus.

Prayer is a tool for all occasions. We pray thanksgiving when we’re full of joy. We pray God’s promises when we’re discouraged. And we pray for others, that God would change them to make them more like Jesus, too.

As you think about prayer, ask yourself—what is prayer not? Why do we pray in the first place? Why do we often turn to prayer last when we face problems?
