The Little Boat 

Once, a ship that was sailing in the middle of the ocean caught fire all of a sudden. The sailors were greatly shocked and began to weep and wail on seeing the dark thick smoke rising up from the burning ship. They did not know what to do and were running hither and thither. One of the sailors cried out, “Untie the little boat and bring it down from the deck; that is our only salvation.” Then hurriedly they let the little boat down and got into it. It carried them all to another ship and miraculously saved them all. 

My friend, when I was reading this story, one line in particular, attracted my attention very much — “That little boat is our salvation.” As you read today’s Bible passage from the gospel of John, you see how a little boy brought 5 loaves and 2 fishes. That was indeed a very small quantity of food to feed thousands. If the disciples had ignored that small quantity of food with contempt, they wouldn’t have seen a miracle. The small quantity of food saved the life of five thousand people that day. So, do not despise small blessings or the help sent by God to you, for those may be the little boats sent by God to save you and bless you. 

Prayer

“Dear Lord, I thank You for opening my eyes towards this truth by this miracle. Help me not to ignore the help and insignificant people you send my way. I believe that they are like that little boat sent to bless me and save me. Help me to identify them in my life, Amen.”
