Wondered by the Word — the Bible in a Yearគំរូ

Righteousness Through Surrender
Key Verse : Isaiah 51:7
I love how God’s Word is alive. I can read it over and over again, and yet, every time, I see something new about Him. Sometimes, if I’m honest, I can coast through a chapter and not remember much of what I’ve read. Other times, a simple sentence or phrase completely stops me in my tracks.
That’s exactly what happened when I recently read Isaiah 51:7.
“Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my instruction: do not fear disgrace by men, and do not be shattered by their taunts.”
You who know righteousness…people in whose heart is my instruction…WOW. I want God to describe me that way!
But let’s start by clearing the air:
Righteousness isn’t perfection.
It isn’t reading your Bible every day.
It isn’t praying for a certain amount of time or a certain number of times in a day.
It isn’t going to church, being in a small group, or doing a Bible study with friends.
It isn’t posting a picture of your Bible on Instagram or sharing your favorite celebrity pastor’s sermon.
Righteousness isn’t a series of boxes to be checked. It’s not something to be earned by doing good things. It’s not only for the “cream of the crop.” You can’t work your way up the ladder to achieve it.
In fact, righteousness calls us to go low in surrender.
The Bible tells us that Christ IS our righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21), so when we invite Him to be our personal Lord (or more simply said, our life leader), giving up our own way of doing things, He clothes us with His righteousness. In fact, He leads us on paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:3) as we walk in obedience to His word.
Reading on in Isaiah 51:7, we see a beautiful peace that comes with walking in righteousness.
“Do not fear…do not be shattered.”
The righteous ones have a unique strength about them that only comes through a relationship with God. We take on His righteousness through our surrender to Christ, and we have the privilege of walking unafraid and unbreakable.
