Wondered by the Word — the Bible in a Yearគំរូ

Can You Hear God’s Voice?
Key Verse : 1 Kings 19:11-12
There had been fifty years of worship of Baal in Israel and God was done with it. His prophet, Elijah, stood before the priests of Baal and in an epic battle of powers, God showed up mightily. No doubt or room was left—God was the one and only God!
But after this incredible victory, Elijah ran into the wilderness and asked God to let him die. After his mountain top experience, Elijah battled a personal one—a depression of sorts. But God wasn’t done with him and provided the physical nourishment he needed to keep going.
Forty days Elijah traveled through the wilderness to get to the mountain of God, Horeb. And it’s here that he received the spiritual nourishment he so desperately needed.
In one of my favorite passages on intimacy with God in the Bible, Elijah meets with God. Let’s read it:
And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper."
Let me ask you: how well tuned into the Lord is your ear? There are more voices than you can count beckoning for your time, energy, and attention. Pride, the enemy, people, fear, doubt, the world, etc. Do you know how to discern God’s voice among all the other voices?
In 1 Kings 19, God wasn’t in the mighty acts that some presume God to be in. Those mighty acts were mere distractions. No, God was in the gentle whisper. And only someone intimately aware of God’s voice could distinguish His voice from the world.
Friend, your spiritual health and condition are directly connected to your ability to tune into His voice. Take the journey to distinguish and discern in a world that will fight every day to capture your attention.
