Revelation 5

The Lamb and the Scroll with Seven Seals

1 Then I observed in the right hand of the One seated on the throne a scroll with writing on both the inside and the back, sealed with seven seals.

2 I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a thunderous voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?”

3 But no one in heaven or on earth or beneath the earth had the power to open the scroll or examine its contents.

4 I began weeping profusely because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or examine it.

5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look—the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered and is therefore able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

6 Then I saw standing in the center of the throne, surrounded by the four living beings and the elders, a Lamb that appeared as though it had been slaughtered. It possessed seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the seven Spirits of God dispatched into all the earth.

7 He approached and took the scroll from the right hand of the One seated on the throne.

8 When He had taken the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders prostrated themselves before the Lamb. Each one held a harp and golden bowls brimming with incense, which represent the prayers of the saints.

9 They sang a new song with these words:

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to break its seals,

because You were slaughtered,

and with Your blood You purchased people for God

from every tribe and language

and people group and nation.

10 You have constituted them as a kingdom and priests to serve our God,

and they will reign on the earth.”

11 Then I looked and heard the voices of countless angels encircling the throne, the living beings, and the elders. Their number was myriads upon myriads and thousands upon thousands.

12 They proclaimed in a mighty voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength

and honor and glory and praise!”

13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and beneath the earth and on the sea—all that exists within them—declaring:

“To the One seated on the throne and to the Lamb

be praise and honor and glory and dominion

throughout all the ages!”

14 The four living beings responded, “Amen!” And the elders prostrated themselves and worshipped.
