Revelation 6

First Seal: The White Horse and the Conqueror

1 I watched as the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living beings say with a voice like thunder, “Come!”

2 I looked, and there before me appeared a white horse! Its rider carried a bow, and a crown was placed on his head. He rode out as a conqueror determined to conquer.

Second Seal: The Fiery Red Horse and the Destroyer

3 When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living being say, “Come!”

4 Then another horse came forth, fiery red in color. Its rider was authorized to remove peace from the earth and to make people slaughter one another. He was given a large sword.

Third Seal: The Black Horse and Famine on Earth

5 When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living being say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me appeared a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

6 Then I heard what seemed to be a voice coming from among the four living beings, announcing, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, but do not damage the olive oil and the wine!”

Fourth Seal: The Pale Green Horse and Death and Hades

7 When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living being say, “Come!”

8 I looked, and there before me appeared a pale green horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades followed close behind him. They were granted authority over one-fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine, plague, and by the wild animals of the earth.

Fifth Seal: The Loud Cries of the Martyrs

9 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw beneath the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because they had proclaimed God’s word and because they had maintained their faithful testimony.

10 They cried out in a loud voice, “How long, holy and true Sovereign Lord, until You judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”

11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were instructed to rest a little longer, until the complete number of their fellow servants and brothers and sisters who were destined to be killed just as they had been was reached.

Sixth Seal: Cosmic Catastrophes

12 I watched as He opened the sixth seal, and a massive earthquake occurred. The sun turned black like coarse sackcloth made from goat hair, and the entire moon became like blood.

13 The stars of the sky fell to the earth like a fig tree drops its late figs when shaken by a violent wind.

14 The sky split apart like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was displaced from its location.

15 Then the kings of the earth, the nobility, the military commanders, the wealthy, the powerful, and every slave and free person hid themselves in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.

16 They called out to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and conceal us from the face of the One seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!

17 For the great day of Their wrath has arrived, and who has the ability to withstand it?”
