Revelation 3
3
To the Church in Sardis
1 “To the angel or messenger of the church in Sardis, write:
“These are the declarations of the One who possesses the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars:
‘I have complete knowledge of your deeds. You possess a reputation for being spiritually alive, but in reality you are spiritually dead.
2 Awaken and fortify what little remains that is about to die, for I have determined that your deeds are incomplete in the sight of My God.
3 Remember what you originally received and heard; guard it carefully and repent. But if you fail to wake up, I will arrive like a thief, and you will have absolutely no idea at what hour I will come upon you.
4 ‘Yet you have a few individuals in Sardis who have not contaminated their garments. They will walk alongside Me dressed in white because they have proven themselves worthy.
5 The person who conquers will similarly be clothed in white garments, and I will absolutely never erase that person’s name from the book of life. Rather, I will openly acknowledge that name in the presence of My Father and in the presence of His angels.
6 ‘Let anyone who has ears pay close attention to what the Spirit is declaring to the churches.’
To the Church in Philadelphia
7 “To the angel or messenger of the church in Philadelphia, write:
“These are the declarations of the Holy One, the True One, who holds the key of David. What He opens, no one can close, and what He closes, no one can open:
8 ‘I have complete knowledge of your deeds. Take notice! I have set before you an open door that no one has the power to close. I recognize that you possess only limited strength, yet you have obeyed My word and have not denied My name.
9 Pay attention! I will deal with those who belong to Satan’s synagogue—those who falsely claim to be Jews when they are actually lying—indeed, I will make them come and prostrate themselves at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.
10 Because you have obeyed My commandment to endure patiently, I will likewise protect you from the hour of testing that is about to come upon the entire world to test those who inhabit the earth.
11 ‘I am coming soon. Grasp tightly what you possess, so that no one seizes your victor's crown.
12 The person who conquers I will establish as a pillar in the temple of My God, and that person will never depart from it again. I will inscribe on that person the name of My God and the name of the city of My God—the new Jerusalem descending out of heaven from My God—and My own new name.
13 ‘Let anyone who has ears pay close attention to what the Spirit is declaring to the churches.’
To the Church in Laodicea
14 “To the angel or messenger of the church in Laodicea, write:
“These are the declarations of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Source of God’s creation:
15 ‘I have complete knowledge of your deeds—you are neither spiritually cold nor spiritually hot. I wish you were one or the other!
16 So because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to vomit you out of My mouth.
17 ‘You keep saying, “I am wealthy and have acquired riches and need nothing,” but you fail to realize that you are miserable, pitiful, poverty-stricken, blind, and naked.
18 I advise you to purchase from Me gold refined through fire so that you may become genuinely wealthy, and white garments so that you may be properly clothed and the shameful exposure of your nakedness will not be revealed, and salve to apply to your eyes so that you may see clearly.
19 ‘All those whom I love I correct and discipline. Therefore become zealous and repent.
20 Pay attention! I stand at the door knocking. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will enter and share a meal with that person, and that person with Me.
21 To the person who conquers, I will grant the privilege of sitting down with Me on My throne, just as I conquered and sat down with My Father on His throne.
22 ‘Let anyone who has ears pay close attention to what the Spirit is declaring to the churches.’ ”
