Revelation 2
2
To the Church in Ephesus
1 “To the angel or messenger of the church in Ephesus, write:
“These are the declarations of the One who grips the seven stars securely in His right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands:
2 ‘I have complete knowledge of your deeds—your exhausting labor and your steadfast endurance. I know you cannot tolerate those who practice evil. You have examined those who falsely claim apostolic authority, and you have exposed them as impostors.
3 You have demonstrated perseverance and have endured suffering on account of My name without growing weary.
4 ‘Nevertheless, I hold this charge against you: You have abandoned the fervent love you displayed at first.
5 Remember the height from which you have fallen. Repent, and resume doing the works you did initially. But if you refuse, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its position—unless you repent.
6 Yet you do possess this commendable quality: You detest the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also detest.
7 ‘Let anyone who has ears pay close attention to what the Spirit is declaring to the churches. To the person who conquers, I will grant authorization to eat from the tree of life standing in God’s paradise.’
To the Church in Smyrna
8 “To the angel or messenger of the church in Smyrna, write:
“These are the declarations of the First and the Last, who died and returned to life:
9 ‘I have full knowledge of your tribulation and your material poverty—though spiritually you are wealthy. I know about the slander hurled at you by those who claim to be Jews but are not genuine Jews; rather, they constitute a synagogue under Satan’s influence.
10 Do not fear what you are about to endure. Pay attention. The devil is preparing to cast some of you into prison to test your faithfulness, and you will experience tribulation for ten days. Remain faithful all the way to death, and I will bestow upon you the victor’s crown of life.
11 ‘Let anyone who has ears pay close attention to what the Spirit is declaring to the churches. The person who conquers will suffer no harm whatsoever from the second death.’
To the Church in Pergamum
12 “To the angel or messenger of the church in Pergamum, write:
“These are the declarations of the One who wields the sharp sword with two edges:
13 ‘I have full knowledge of where you dwell—in the very location where Satan has established his throne. Yet you cling firmly to My name and did not renounce your faith in Me, even during the time when Antipas, My faithful witness, was martyred among you, in the place where Satan resides.
14 However, I have a few complaints against you: You have some members there who embrace the teaching of Balaam, who instructed Balak how to cause the Israelites to stumble by enticing them to eat food sacrificed to idols and to engage in sexual immorality.
15 Likewise, you have some who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.
16 Therefore repent. But if you refuse, I will come to you swiftly and will make war against them using the sword that comes from My mouth.
17 ‘Let anyone who has ears pay close attention to what the Spirit is declaring to the churches. To the person who conquers, I will give a portion of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone inscribed with a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.’
To the Church in Thyatira
18 “To the angel or messenger of the church in Thyatira, write:
“These are the declarations of the Son of God, whose eyes blaze like flames of fire and whose feet gleam like refined bronze:
19 ‘I have full knowledge of your deeds—your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. I know that your recent deeds surpass your earlier ones.
20 Nevertheless, I hold this charge against you: You are permitting that woman Jezebel, who designates herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants into committing sexual immorality and eating food sacrificed to idols.
21 I have granted her time to repent, but she refuses to turn away from her sexual immorality.
22 Take notice. I am about to throw her onto a bed of anguish, and I will plunge those who commit adultery with her into severe tribulation, unless they repent of their participation in her deeds.
23 I will strike her followers dead with plague, and all the churches will recognize that I am the One who examines innermost thoughts and desires, and I will repay each of you according to your actions.
24 ‘But to the rest of you in Thyatira—all of you who do not embrace this teaching and have not explored what some people call Satan’s deep secrets—I say that I will impose no additional burden on you.
25 However, hold tightly to what you possess until I arrive.
26 To the person who conquers and continues performing My works until the end, I will grant authority over the nations.
27 That person will rule them with an iron rod and will shatter them like clay pottery—exactly as I have received authority from My Father.
28 I will also give that person the morning star.
29 ‘Let anyone who has ears pay close attention to what the Spirit is declaring to the churches.’
