Philippians 3

Confidence in the Righteousness Through Faith in Christ Jesus

1 Finally, my brothers and sisters, find your joy in the Lord. Writing these same things to you is no burden for me, and it provides protection for you.

2 Be on guard against the dogs! Be on guard against those who do evil! Be on guard against those who mutilate the flesh!

3 For we are the true circumcision—we who worship by the Spirit of God and boast in Christ Jesus and place no confidence in human credentials,

4 though I myself have grounds for confidence even in human credentials. If anyone else presumes to have confidence based on human credentials, I possess even more:

5 circumcised on the eighth day, belonging to the people of Israel, from the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew descended from Hebrews; regarding the Law, a Pharisee;

6 regarding zeal, one who persecuted the church; regarding the righteousness found in the Law, blameless.

7 But whatever things were assets to me, I have come to regard as loss for the sake of Christ.

8 More than that, I regard everything as loss compared to the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have forfeited everything and consider it all as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

9 and be found in Him, not possessing my own righteousness derived from the Law, but the righteousness that comes through faith in Christ—the righteousness from God based on faith—

10 so that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

11 hoping that somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Pressing Forward Toward the Goal

12 Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached perfection, but I press forward to take hold of it because I was also taken hold of by Christ Jesus.

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have already taken hold of it. But this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining toward what lies ahead,

14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.

15 Therefore, let all of us who are mature adopt this way of thinking. And if on any point you think differently, God will clarify this for you as well.

16 Nevertheless, let us live according to the same standard we have already reached.

The Apostolic Pattern

17 Brothers and sisters, join together in imitating me, and pay careful attention to those who conduct themselves according to the pattern we have provided for you.

18 For many people conduct themselves—about whom I have frequently warned you, and now tell you even with tears—as enemies of the cross of Christ.

19 Their end is destruction, their god is their appetite, and they take pride in their shame—they set their minds on earthly matters.

20 But our citizenship belongs to heaven, and it is from there we eagerly await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

21 who will transform our lowly bodies to be conformed to His glorious body, according to the power by which He is able to subject all things to Himself.
