Revelation 3
3
To the Church in Sardis
1 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis, write:
These things say the One who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: ‘I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain, which are going to die, for I have not found your works completed in the sight of My God. 3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard, and keep it, * and repent. But if you are not watchful, I will come like a thief, and you will never know at what hour I will come against you. 4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, because they are worthy. 5 The one who prevails in this way will be clothed in white garments, and I will never expunge his name from the book of life, but I will acknowledge his name before My Father and before His angels. 6 The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’
To the Church in Philadelphia
7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia, write:
These things says the Holy One, the True One, the One who has the key of David, the One who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens: 8 ‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut, because you have a little strength, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name. 9 Behold, I am making those of the synagogue of Satan, those who call themselves Jews and are not, but are lying—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of the testing which is going to come on the whole world, to test those who live on the earth. 11 I am coming quickly. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12 The one who prevails, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will never go out of it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name. 13 The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’
To the Church in Laodicea
14 “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea, write:
These things says the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Ruler of the creation of God: 15 ‘I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were consistently cold or hot! * 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth! 17 Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not realise that you are miserable and pitiable, and poor and blind, and naked, 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire, so that you may become rich; and white garments, so that you may be clothed and the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and eye salve to rob on your eyes, so that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. Be fervent, therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 The one who prevails, I will grant him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also have prevailed and have sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’ ”
Notes
3 Some ancient manuscripts omit these two coordinating clauses and heard, and keep it
