1 Peter 5
5
Shepherding the Flock of God
1 Therefore, I exhort elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a sharer of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight, not by compulsion, but willingly, as befits God's intention;* not for shameful gain, but with a willing heart; 3 and not as exercising lordship over those under your care, but being examples for the flock.* 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
Submission to the Elders
5 In the same way, younger ones, be subject to the elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility towards one another, because,
“God opposes the proud,
but He gives grace to the humble.”*
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your cares on Him, because He cares for you.
Firmness in the Faith
8 Be sober-minded; be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of sufferings are being accomplished by your brotherhood throughout the world.
10 And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ,* after you have suffered for a little while, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To Him be the power* forever and ever.* Amen.
Final Greetings
12 Through Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written to you briefly,* exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it. 13 She who is in Babylon, elected together with you, greets you, and so does* Mark, my son. 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in Christ.***
