1 Peter 4

4
Living for God's Will
1 Therefore, because Christ suffered in the flesh, equip yourselves also with the same way of thinking, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 so as to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for the will of God. 3 For the time that has passed was sufficient to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having lived in sensuality, inordinate desires, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and unlawful idolatries. 4 In this, they think it strange that you do not run with them into the same overflow of dissipation, and they speak evil against you. 5 They will give an account to the One who is ready to render judgment upon the living and the dead. 6 For this reason, the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards with respect to the flesh, but live according to God with respect to the spirit.
The End of All Things Has Drawn Near
7 Now the end of all things has drawn near. Therefore, be of sound judgment and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. 8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a large number of sins. 9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10 Just as each one has received a gift, utilise it for serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God: 11 If anyone speaks, let it be* as one who speaks* the oracles of God; if anyone serves, let it be* as from the strength which God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever.* Amen.
Sharing in the Sufferings of Christ
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for testing, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that at the revelation of His glory you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14 If you are insulted on account of the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.* 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as one who meddles in the affairs of others. 16 However, if someone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God. But if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who disobey the gospel of God? 18 And,
“If the righteous is saved with difficulty,
where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”*
19 Therefore, let those also who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing good.
