I have communicated these matters to you so that you will not fall away or be led into sin.
They will remove you from the synagogues. Indeed, an hour is approaching when anyone who murders you will suppose he is presenting worship to God.
And they will perform these actions because they have gained no knowledge of the Father or of Me.
But I have communicated these matters to you so that when the hour arrives, you may recall that I informed you concerning them. I did not communicate these matters to you from the beginning, because I was remaining with you.
The Work of the Spirit
But now I am proceeding to the One who sent Me, and none of you inquires of Me, 'Where are You proceeding?'
But because I have communicated these matters to you, grief has filled your hearts.
Yet I communicate the truth to you: It is beneficial for you that I depart. For if I do not depart, the Intercessor will not come to you. But if I proceed, I will send Him to you.
And when He arrives, He will expose and convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment:
concerning sin, because they do not place their faith in Me;
concerning righteousness, because I am proceeding to the Father and you will no longer see Me;
and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world stands condemned.
I still have many matters to communicate to you, but you lack the capacity to receive them now.
But when He arrives—the Spirit of truth—He will lead you into the entirety of truth. For He will not communicate from His own initiative, but whatever He hears He will communicate, and He will announce to you the matters that are approaching.
He will bring glory to Me, because He will receive from what is Mine and will announce it to you.
All things that the Father possesses are Mine. For this reason I stated that He receives from what is Mine and will announce it to you.
Your Sadness Will Turn into Joy
A brief time, and you will no longer see Me, and again a brief time, and you will see Me."
Some of His disciples therefore declared to one another, "What is this that He communicates to us, 'A brief time, and you will not see Me, and again a brief time, and you will see Me,' and, 'Because I am proceeding to the Father'?"
So they were saying, "What is this 'brief time' of which He speaks? We have no understanding of what He is communicating."
Jesus recognised that they desired to question Him, so He declared to them, "Are you deliberating among yourselves concerning this, that I stated, 'A brief time, and you will not see Me, and again a brief time, and you will see Me'?
Truly, truly, I declare to you: You will weep and lament, but the world will experience joy. You will experience grief, but your grief will be transformed into joy.
When a woman gives birth, she has anguish because her hour has arrived. But when the child is born, she no longer recalls the suffering, because of her joy that a human being has been brought into the world.
So you also have grief now. But I will see you again, and your hearts will experience joy, and no one will remove your joy from you.
And in that day you will pose no questions to Me. Truly, truly, I declare to you: Whatever you request of the Father in My name, He will provide to you.
Until now you have requested nothing in My name. Request, and you will receive, so that your joy may be brought to completion.
I Have Overcome the World
I have communicated these matters to you in figures of speech. An hour is approaching when I will no longer communicate to you in figures of speech, but will announce to you plainly concerning the Father.
In that day you will make requests in My name, and I do not declare to you that I will make petition to the Father on your behalf,
for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have placed your faith in the fact that I proceeded from God.
I proceeded from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I am departing from the world and proceeding to the Father."
His disciples declared, "Behold, now You are communicating plainly and not employing any figure of speech!
Now we understand that You possess knowledge of all things and have no need for anyone to pose questions to You. By this we place our faith in the fact that You proceeded from God."
Jesus responded to them, "Do you now place your faith in Me?
Behold, an hour is approaching—and has now arrived—when you will be dispersed, each one to his own home, and you will abandon Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
I have communicated these matters to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But maintain courage: I have conquered the world."
