Jesus is the True Vine
I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser who cultivates it.
Every branch in Me that does not produce fruit, He removes. And every branch that does produce fruit, He prunes and cleanses, so that it may produce even more fruit.
You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as a branch cannot produce fruit by itself unless it remains connected to the vine, so you cannot produce fruit unless you remain in Me.
I am the vine; you are the branches. The person who remains in Me, and I in him—that person produces much fruit. For apart from Me you can accomplish nothing of eternal value.
If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown away like a branch and withers. People gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, ask whatever you desire, and it will be accomplished for you.
By this My Father is glorified: that you produce much fruit and prove yourselves to be My disciples.
Just as the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you. Remain in My love.
If you obey My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed My Father's commandments and remain in His love.
I have spoken these things to you so that My joy may be in you, and so that your joy may be completely full.
This is My commandment: Love one another just as I have loved you.
No one possesses greater love than this: that someone would lay down his life for his friends.
You are My friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. Instead, I have called you friends, because everything I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
You did not choose Me; rather, I chose you and appointed you to go out and produce fruit—fruit that will endure. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask Him in My name.
This is what I command you: Love one another.
The World's Hatred Against Jesus and His Disciples
If the world hates you, understand and remember that it hated Me before it hated you.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. But because you do not belong to the world—because I chose you out of the world—the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well. If they obeyed My word, they will obey yours also.
But they will do all these things to you on account of My name, because they do not know the One who sent Me.
If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin.
The person who hates Me hates My Father as well.
If I had not done among them works that no one else has ever done, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these works and yet have hated both Me and My Father.
But this has happened to fulfil the word written in their Law: 'They hated Me without any cause or reason.'
When the Intercessor comes—the One I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me.
And you also must testify about Me, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
