The High Priestly Prayer of Jesus
Jesus spoke these things, and raising His eyes to heaven in prayer, He said, "Father, the hour has come at last. Glorify Your Son through what is about to unfold, so that the Son may glorify You in return.
You have given Him authority over all flesh, over all humanity, so that to all whom You have given Him as a trust, He may give eternal life to them as a gift.
Now this is eternal life in its essence, that they may know You intimately, the Only true God in existence, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent as the Messiah.
I have glorified You on earth and brought You honour, having completed the work that You gave Me to do and accomplish.
Now, Father, You glorify Me at Your side with the glory that I had with You before the world existed."
"I have manifested Your name and revealed Your character to the men whom You gave Me out of the world. Yours they were by Your choice, and You gave them to Me as disciples, and they have kept Your word.
Now they have come to understand that all the things that You have given Me—My words, My works, My authority—are from You as the source.
Because the words which You gave to Me I have given to them faithfully, and they received them. They understood truly that I came from You in origin, and they believed that You sent Me as Your representative.
I am praying on their behalf at this moment. I am not praying on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom You have given Me, because they are Yours by election.
All things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine in shared possession, and I have been glorified in them.
I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to You in heaven. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, in Your character, which You have given to Me, so that they may be one in unity, just as We are one.
While I was with them, I kept them in Your name, which You have given to Me, and I guarded them from evil. None of them has perished except the son of destruction, Judas, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled as prophesied.
Now I am coming to You, and these things I am saying in the world while still present, so that they may have My joy brought to its full measure in themselves.
I have given them Your word and Your truth, and the world has hated them because of it, because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
I do not pray that You take them out of the world by removing them, but that You keep them from the evil one.
They are not of the world in their values and allegiance, just as I am not of the world in Mine.
Sanctify them by the truth—that is, set them apart and make them holy through the truth. Your word is truth and reality.
As You sent Me into the world on a mission, so also I have sent them into the world with the gospel message.
For their sake I sanctify Myself and set Myself apart for sacrifice, so that they themselves also may be sanctified by the truth—both made holy by it and set apart for Your service.
I am not praying on behalf of these disciples only, but also on behalf of those who believe in Me through their word and testimony, future generations of believers.
I pray that they all may be one in spiritual unity, just as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You in perfect union, that they also may be in Us in fellowship, in order that the world may believe that You sent Me when they see this unity.
The glory which You have given to Me, I have given to them to reflect Your character, that they may be one in unity, just as We are one in nature—
I in them, and You in Me in perfect union—so that they may be brought to perfection in unity and maturity, that the world may know with certainty that You sent Me, and You loved them with the same love, just as You loved Me eternally.
Father, I desire and will that they also, whom You have given to Me as a precious trust, may be with Me where I am in glory, in order that they may see My glory which You have given Me, because You loved Me before the foundation of the world was laid."
"Righteous Father, although the world does not know You or recognise You, I have known You intimately, and these disciples have known that You sent Me as Your representative.
I have made known to them Your name and revealed Your character, and will continue to make it known in the future, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them dwelling, and I may be in them by My presence."
