Jesus is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life
1 Do not let your hearts be troubled and distressed. Continue trusting in God; trust also in Me.
2 In My Father's house there are many dwelling places. If that were not true, I would have told you plainly. I am going to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming back to receive you to Myself, so that where I am, you may be there also.
4 You already know the way to the place where I am going."
5 Thomas said to Him: "Lord, we do not know where You are going, so how can we possibly know the way to get there?"
6 Jesus said to him: "I Myself am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by going through Me.
7 If you had truly known Me, you would have known My Father as well. From this moment forward, you do know Him and have seen Him with your own eyes."
8 Philip said to Him: "Lord, show us the Father, and that will be sufficient for us."
9 Jesus said to him: "Have I been with you for such a long time, Philip, and you still have not come to know Me? The person who has seen Me has seen the Father! How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority. Rather, it is the Father, dwelling in Me, who accomplishes His works.
11 Believe Me when I tell you that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Or at the very least, believe on account of the works themselves.
12 I tell you with absolute certainty and truth: The person who believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. In fact, he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 And whatever you ask in My name, I will do it, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
The Promise of the Spirit
15 If you love Me, you will obey My commandments.
16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Intercessor to be with you forever—
17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you and will be in you.
18 I will not leave you as orphans without care or protection. I am coming to you.
19 In just a little while, the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 On that day you will come to know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
21 The person who has My commandments and obeys them—that is the one who loves Me. And the person who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him."
22 Judas—not Iscariot—said to Him: "Lord, what has happened that You are about to reveal Yourself to us but not to the world?"
23 Jesus answered and said to him: "If anyone loves Me, he will obey My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
24 The person who does not love Me does not obey My words. And the word you hear is not Mine alone, but belongs to the Father who sent Me.
25 I have spoken these things to you while remaining with you.
26 But the Intercessor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name—He will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
28 You heard Me say to you: 'I am going away, and I am coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would be rejoicing that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.
29 I have told you this now before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
30 I will not speak with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power or claim over Me,
31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly as the Father has commanded Me. Get up now; let us leave this place.
