The armor of God “ Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11) Paul writes to the church in Ephesus. At the end of his letter, he urges his readers to “put on the whole armor of God”. Not because they are attacked physically, but because life as a Christian is a constant spiritual battle against Satan and his servants, who try to lead us away from God. The armor of God is necessary to protect us against the schemes of these evil spiritual powers. Against supernatural adversaries, we need supernatural power. Therefore Paul urges his readers to “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (verse 10). Only He has the power to defeat Satan: “Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross” (Colossians 2:15, NIV). Christ offers believers spiritual armor, that they should put on to protect themselves.
