Finding Happiness In Real Life

NGÀY 3 TRONG 3

Learning to Laugh Again Zora Neale Hurston, American author and historian once commented, “I love myself when I am laughing.” As a person who wears a lot of hats—husband, father, brother, pastor, and friend—there is something about laughter that lightens my load and helps bring things back into perspective. The Psalmist writes, “The One enthroned in heaven laughs.” It goes on to explain that He laughs because of His enemies. Why does God laugh? Because He knows that, in the end, His team always wins. He has allowed pain and suffering to enter this world for a little while, but they do not have the final authority or victory. Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are assured that our God has dominion over death and sin. Because He laughs, we too can laugh at the things to come. In Psalm 126, God’s people remember a past period of his mercy and grace to them. In the midst of their present sorrow, they are able to look back on His goodness and recall their laughter. In asking Him for new mercies, they demonstrate their trust that, even in the darkest of circumstances, there is still purpose in laughter. This unconditional hope is ours because of who our God is! Real faith puts an expiration date on our moments of sorrow. Real faith learns to laugh at temporary setbacks, because we know that, in the end, we’re on the winning team. Let’s not take ourselves so seriously all the time! It may seem like your problem is going to get the last word; but the battle is the Lord’s, and He’s going to have the last laugh!
