Lie #1: You Are Beautiful Because a Guy Told You So I’ve had enough of trying to be good enough. The truth is, we will never be enough. Not for this world anyway, because God didn’t create us to please this world; He created us for His pleasure. And that creates a conflict. God is truth, and the world tells us lies in an attempt to take us away from Him. When we fall victim to those lies, we choose to dance with the world instead of God. Frankly, that’s not a dance I enjoy. I have looked up from my feet to see I’m following the lead of my insecurities when I should be following my Creator. Can we declare together, right here, right now, that we’ve had enough of trying to be good enough? When we doubt ourselves, question our worth, and ask if there’s anyone out there willing to love us as we are, God answers, “I am.” He is offering His hand to you, hoping you will accept His offer to dance. The first lie we need to confront—a lie that robs our joy and keeps us from enjoying God’s truth—is that we are only beautiful because a guy tells us we are. There will always be some guy out there who finds you unattractive. If you put your worth in what a guy thinks of you, even if he is a Christian, I promise he will fail you. God made you the way you are for a reason. Fussing and complaining cannot change your physical beauty. I’m not suggesting you throw away your favorite shade of lipstick and never go to the gym again. Dress nice. Stay healthy. But don’t do those things to please the world. When you find yourself fussing over how guys view you, pray. Focus on living for the One who gave you life. Seek His eyes, and pray for the ability to see yourself the way He sees you. Allow Him—not the temporary desires of this world—to tell you who you are. You are His favorite creation. Celebrate that! A beautiful woman knows she is beautiful because of her Creator. She spends time clothing herself in the fruit of the Spirit. Let’s dress ourselves with love, style ourselves with gentleness, and wear self-control boldly. May we choose joy daily and throw kindness around like confetti. Let us be patient with one another and live life-bearing goodness. Purpose is your best accessory. Wake up each morning eager to serve, love, and be the person God created you to be. Now, for you my friend, I believe God created you for big things. Your purpose is not to look pretty, but to make the world look more like God’s kingdom each day. Look like Christ, bearing fruit with every breath you take. Be clothed with strength and dignity, showing joy in your not-so-great circumstances. Pursue God, not compliments.
