Ma-thi-ơ 27

1Đến sáng mai, các thầy tế-lễ cả và các trưởng-lão trong dân hội-nghị nghịch cùng Đức Chúa Jêsus để giết Ngài. 2Khi đã trói Ngài rồi, họ đem nộp cho Phi-lát, là quan tổng-đốc.

Giu-đa chết

(Công-vụ 1:18,19)

3Khi ấy, Giu-đa, là kẻ đã phản Ngài, thấy Ngài bị án, thì ăn-năn, bèn đem ba chục miếng bạc trả cho các thầy tế-lễ cả và các trưởng-lão, #Công 1:18-19. 4mà nói rằng: Tôi đã phạm tội vì nộp huyết vô-tội! Song họ đáp rằng: Sự đó can gì đến chúng ta? Mặc kệ ngươi. 5Giu-đa bèn ném bạc vào đền-thờ, liền trở ra, đi thắt cổ. 6Nhưng các thầy tế-lễ cả lượm bạc và nói rằng: Không có phép để bạc nầy trong kho thánh, vì là giá của huyết. 7Rồi họ bàn với nhau dùng bạc đó mua ruộng của kẻ làm đồ gốm để chôn những khách lạ. 8Nhân đó, ruộng ấy đến nay còn gọi là “ruộng huyết.” 9Bấy giờ được ứng-nghiệm lời đấng tiên-tri Giê-rê-mi đã nói rằng: Họ lấy ba chục bạc, là giá của Đấng đã bị định bởi con-cái Y-sơ-ra-ên, 10và đưa bạc ấy mà mua ruộng của kẻ làm đồ gốm y như lời Chúa đã truyền cho ta.#27:10 Lời trích dẫn ở đây không phải tất cả đều của Giê-rê-mi, nhưng là một tập hợp những ý trong Xa 11:12,13; Giê 32:6-15; 18:2-10 và 19:1-13. Có thể vì liên quan nhiều hơn đến Giê-rê-mi nên được gán cho Giê-rê-mi. #Xa 11:12-13.

Đức Chúa Jêsus trước mặt Phi-lát

(Mác 15:2-5; Lu-ca 23:3-5; Giăng 18:33-38)

11Đức Chúa Jêsus đứng trước quan tổng-đốc, quan hỏi rằng: Có phải ngươi là Vua của dân Giu-đa không? Đức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Thật như lời. 12Trong lúc các thầy tế-lễ cả và các trưởng-lão kiện Ngài, Ngài không đối-đáp gì hết. 13Phi-lát bèn nói cùng Ngài rằng: Họ có nhiều điều làm chứng kiện ngươi, ngươi há không nghe đến sao? 14Song Đức Chúa Jêsus không đáp lại một lời gì, đến nỗi làm cho quan tổng-đốc lấy làm lạ lắm.

15Phàm đến ngày lễ Vượt-qua, quan tổng-đốc thường có lệ tha một tên tù tùy ý dân muốn. 16Đang lúc ấy, có một tên phạm nổi tiếng, tên là Ba-ra-ba. 17Khi chúng đã nhóm lại, thì Phi-lát hỏi rằng: Các ngươi muốn ta tha người nào, Ba-ra-ba hay là Jêsus gọi là Christ? 18Vì quan ấy biết bởi lòng ghen-ghét nên chúng đã nộp Ngài. — 19Quan tổng-đốc đương ngồi trên tòa án, vợ người sai thưa cùng người rằng: Đừng làm gì đến người công-bình đó; vì hôm nay tôi đã bởi cớ người mà đau-đớn nhiều trong chiêm-bao. — 20Song các thầy tế-lễ cả và các trưởng-lão dỗ chúng hãy xin tha Ba-ra-ba và giết Đức Chúa Jêsus. 21Quan tổng-đốc cất tiếng hỏi rằng: Trong hai người nầy, các ngươi muốn ta tha ai? Chúng thưa rằng: Ba-ra-ba. 22Phi-lát nói rằng: Vậy, còn Jêsus gọi là Christ, thì ta sẽ xử thế nào? Chúng đều trả lời rằng: Đóng đinh nó trên cây thập-tự! 23Quan hỏi: Song người nầy đã làm việc dữ gì? Chúng lại kêu-la lớn hơn rằng: Đóng đinh nó trên cây thập-tự! 24Phi-lát thấy mình không thắng nổi chi hết, mà sự ồn-ào càng thêm, thì lấy nước rửa tay trước mặt thiên-hạ, mà nói rằng: Ta không có tội về huyết của người nầy; điều đó mặc kệ các ngươi. #Phục 21:6-9. 25Hết thảy dân-chúng đều đáp rằng: Xin huyết người lại đổ trên chúng tôi và con-cái chúng tôi! 26Phi-lát bèn tha tên Ba-ra-ba cho chúng; và khiến đánh đòn Đức Chúa Jêsus, đoạn giao Ngài ra để đóng đinh trên cây thập-tự.

27Lính của quan tổng-đốc bèn đem Đức Chúa Jêsus vào công-đường, và nhóm cả cơ-binh vây lấy Ngài. 28Họ cởi áo Ngài ra, lấy áo điều mà khoác cho Ngài. 29Đoạn, họ đương một cái mão gai mà đội trên đầu, và để một cây sậy trong tay hữu Ngài; rồi quì xuống trước mặt Ngài mà nhạo-báng rằng: Lạy Vua của dân Giu-đa! 30Họ nhổ trên Ngài và lấy cây sậy đánh đầu Ngài. 31Khi đã nhạo-báng Ngài rồi, thì họ cởi áo điều ra mà mặc áo của Ngài lại, rồi đem Ngài đi đóng đinh trên cây thập-tự.

Đức Chúa Jêsus bị đóng đinh trên cây thập-tự

(Mác 15:21-32; Lu-ca 23:26-43; Giăng 19:17-27)

32Khi họ đi ra, gặp một người ở thành Sy-ren tên là Si-môn; thì bắt người vác cây thập-tự của Đức Chúa Jêsus. 33Đã đi tới một chỗ gọi là Gô-gô-tha, nghĩa là chỗ cái Sọ, 34họ cho Ngài uống rượu trộn với mật đắng; song Ngài nếm, thì không chịu uống. #Thi 69:21. 35Họ đã đóng đinh Ngài trên cây thập-tự rồi, thì bắt thăm mà chia nhau áo-xống của Ngài. #Thi 22:18. 36Rồi họ ngồi đó mà canh-giữ Ngài. 37Phía trên đầu Ngài họ để cái bảng đề chữ, chỉ về án Ngài, rằng: Người nầy là Jêsus, Vua dân Giu-đa.

38Cũng lúc đó, họ đóng đinh hai tên trộm-cướp với Ngài, một tên ở cây thập-tự bên hữu, một tên ở cây thập-tự bên tả. 39Những kẻ đi ngang qua đó chê-cười Ngài, lắc đầu, #Thi 22:7; 109:25. 40mà nói rằng: Ngươi là kẻ phá đền-thờ và dựng lại trong ba ngày, hãy cứu lấy mình đi! Nếu ngươi là Con Đức Chúa Trời, hãy xuống khỏi cây thập-tự! #Mat 26:61; Gi 2:19. 41Các thầy tế-lễ cả, các thầy thông-giáo và các trưởng-lão cũng nhạo Ngài rằng: 42Nó đã cứu kẻ khác mà cứu mình không được. Nếu phải Vua dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, bây giờ hãy xuống khỏi cây thập-tự đi, thì chúng ta mới tin. 43Nó nhờ-cậy Đức Chúa Trời; nếu Đức Chúa Trời yêu nó thì bây giờ Ngài phải giải-cứu cho, vì nó đã nói rằng: Ta là Con Đức Chúa Trời. #Thi 22:8. 44Hai tên trộm-cướp bị đóng đinh trên cây thập-tự với Ngài cũng nhiếc-móc Ngài như vậy.

45Từ giờ thứ sáu đến giờ thứ chín,#27:45 Từ giữa trưa đến ba giờ chiều. khắp cả xứ đều tối-tăm mù-mịt. 46Ước-chừng giờ thứ chín, Đức Chúa Jêsus kêu tiếng lớn lên rằng: Ê-li, Ê-li, lam-ma-sa-bách-ta-ni? nghĩa là: Đức Chúa Trời tôi ơi! Đức Chúa Trời tôi ơi! Sao Ngài lìa-bỏ tôi? #Thi 22:1. 47Có mấy người đứng đó, nghe kêu, thì nói rằng: Nó kêu Ê-li. 48Liền có một người trong bọn họ chạy lấy một miếng bông-đá, và thấm đầy giấm, để trên đầu cây sậy mà đưa cho Ngài uống. #Thi 69:21. 49Nhưng kẻ khác thì lại nói rằng: Hãy để vậy, coi thử có Ê-li đến giải-cứu nó chăng. 50Đức Chúa Jêsus lại kêu lên một tiếng lớn nữa, rồi trút linh-hồn.

51Và nầy, cái màn trong đền-thờ bị xé ra làm hai từ trên chí dưới, đất thì rúng-động, đá lớn bể ra, #Xuất 26:31-33. 52mồ-mả mở ra, và nhiều thây của các thánh qua đời được sống lại. 53Sau khi Đức Chúa Jêsus đã sống lại, các thánh đó ra khỏi mồ-mả, đi vào thành thánh, và hiện ra cho nhiều người thấy. 54Thầy đội và những lính cùng với người canh giữ Đức Chúa Jêsus, thấy đất rúng-động và những điều xảy đến, thì sợ-hãi lắm, mà nói rằng: Thật người nầy là Con Đức Chúa Trời. 55Vả, có nhiều người đàn-bà đứng coi ở đàng xa, là người đã đi theo Đức Chúa Jêsus từ xứ Ga-li-lê để hầu việc Ngài. #Lu 8:2-3. 56Trong những đàn-bà đó có Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len, Ma-ri, mẹ của Gia-cơ và Giô-sép, và mẹ hai con trai của Xê-bê-đê.

Sự chôn Chúa. – Lính canh mộ

(Mác 15:42-47; Lu-ca 23:50-56; Giăng 19:38-42)

57Đến chiều tối, có một người giàu, ở thành A-ri-ma-thê, tên là Giô-sép, chính là một môn-đồ của Đức Chúa Jêsus, 58đến nơi Phi-lát mà xin xác Đức Chúa Jêsus. Phi-lát bèn truyền cho. 59Giô-sép lấy xác Ngài bọc trong tấm vải liệm trắng, 60và đưa để trong một cái huyệt mới mà người đã khiến đục cho mình trong hòn đá; đoạn, lăn một hòn đá lớn đến trước cửa mồ, rồi đi. 61Có Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len và Ma-ri khác ở đó, ngồi đối ngang huyệt.

62Đến ngày mai (là ngày sau ngày sắm-sửa), các thầy tế-lễ cả và người Pha-ri-si cùng nhau đến Phi-lát, 63mà nói rằng: Thưa chúa, chúng tôi nhớ người gian-dối nầy, khi còn sống, có nói rằng: Khỏi ba ngày thì ta sẽ sống lại. #Mat 16:21; 17:23; 20:19; Mác 8:31; 9:31; 10:33-34; Lu 9:22; 18:31-33. 64Vậy, xin hãy cắt người canh mả cẩn-thận cho đến ngày thứ ba, kẻo môn-đồ nó đến lấy trộm xác đi, rồi nói với dân chúng rằng: Ngài đã từ kẻ chết sống lại. Sự gian-dối sau đó sẽ tệ hơn sự gian-dối trước. 65Phi-lát nói với họ rằng: Các ngươi có lính canh; hãy đi canh-giữ theo ý các ngươi. 66Vậy, họ đi, niêm-phong mả Ngài lại, cắt lính canh-giữ, lấy làm chắc-chắn lắm.

Judas’s Remorse

1Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death; 2and they bound Him, and led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor.

3Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to that yourself!” 5And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself. 6The chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the temple treasury, since it is the price of blood.” 7And they conferred together and with the money bought the Potter’s Field as a burial place for strangers. 8For this reason that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one whose price had been set by the sons of Israel; 10and they gave them for the Potter’s Field, as the Lord directed me.”

Jesus before Pilate

11Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.” 12And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not answer. 13Then Pilate *said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” 14And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so the governor was quite amazed.

15Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people any one prisoner whom they wanted. 16At that time they were holding a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas. 17So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” 18For he knew that because of envy they had handed Him over.

19While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying, “Have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him.” 20But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death. 21But the governor said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22Pilate *said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all *said, “Crucify Him!” 23And he said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they kept shouting all the more, saying, “Crucify Him!”

24When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this Man’s blood; see to that yourselves.” 25And all the people said, “His blood shall be on us and on our children!” 26Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

Jesus Is Mocked

27Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort around Him. 28They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. 29And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head. 31After they had mocked Him, they took the scarlet robe off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.

32As they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear His cross.

The Crucifixion

33And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means Place of a Skull, 34they gave Him wine to drink mixed with gall; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink.

35And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves by casting lots. 36And sitting down, they began to keep watch over Him there. 37And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

38At that time two robbers *were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. 39And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads 40and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, 42“He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. 43He trusts in God; let God rescue Him now, if He delights in Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ” 44The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.

45Now from the #I.e. 12 noonsixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the #I.e. 3 p.m.ninth hour. 46About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48Immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink. 49But the rest of them said, “Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him#Some early mss read And another took a spear and pierced His side, and there came out water and blood (cf John 19:34).” 50And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. 52The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many. 54Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

55Many women were there looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while ministering to Him. 56Among them was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

Jesus Is Buried

57When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. 58This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave.

62Now on the next day, the day after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, 63and said, “Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I am to rise again.’ 64Therefore, give orders for the grave to be made secure until the third day, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.” 65Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.” 66And they went and made the grave secure, and along with the guard they set a seal on the stone.
