Khi ăn xong, Đức Chúa Jêsus nói với Si-môn Phi-e-rơ rằng: “Si-môn, con của Giăng, con yêu Ta hơn những người nầy chăng?” Phi-e-rơ thưa: “Vâng, thưa Chúa, Chúa biết rằng con yêu Chúa.” Đức Chúa Jêsus bảo: “Hãy chăm sóc những chiên con của Ta.” Ngài lại hỏi ông lần thứ hai: “Si-môn, con của Giăng ơi, con yêu Ta chăng?” Phi-e-rơ thưa: “Vâng, thưa Chúa, Chúa biết rằng con yêu Chúa.” Đức Chúa Jêsus bảo: “Hãy chăn chiên Ta.” Ngài lại hỏi ông lần thứ ba: “Si-môn, con của Giăng ơi, con yêu Ta chăng?” Phi-e-rơ buồn vì Ngài hỏi mình đến ba lần: “Con yêu Ta chăng?” Ông thưa rằng: “Thưa Chúa, Chúa biết tất cả mọi sự; Chúa biết rằng con yêu Chúa.” Đức Chúa Jêsus bảo: “Hãy chăm sóc chiên Ta.
