Ngunit pagtanda mo, iuunat mo ang iyong mga kamay at iba ang magbibihis sa iyo at dadalhin ka sa lugar na di mo gusto.” Sinabi niya ito upang ipahiwatig kung paanong mamamatay si Pedro at kung paano niya pararangalan ang Diyos. Pagkatapos, sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Sumunod ka sa akin!” Lumingon si Pedro at nakita niyang kasunod niya ang alagad na minamahal ni Jesus, ang siyang humilig sa dibdib ni Jesus nang sila'y naghahapunan at nagtanong, “Panginoon, sino po ang magkakanulo sa inyo?” Nang makita siya ni Pedro ay tinanong nito si Jesus, “Panginoon, paano po naman ang taong ito?” Sumagot si Jesus, “Kung nais kong mabuhay siya hanggang sa pagbabalik ko, ano sa iyo? Sumunod ka sa akin!” Kumalat sa mga mananampalataya ang balitang hindi mamamatay ang alagad na ito. Ngunit hindi naman sinabi ni Jesus na hindi siya mamamatay, kundi, “Kung nais kong mabuhay siya hanggang sa pagbabalik ko, ano sa iyo?”
