DAY 3 OF 7

It Is Finished

by Mark Harris

"It is finished." When Jesus spoke these words on the cross, He left nothing out. "It" covered, and still covers, everything.

It is often easy for us to believe that Christ's sacrifice was sufficient for someone else's situation but not for our own lives. We tend to think of our sins and failures as too big for God to handle.

The Greek word tetelestai is literally translated, "It is finished." This word, also used on ancient documents to show a bill as paid in full, means complete, lacking nothing. When Christ uttered “tetelestai” on the cross, He included everything, everyone, and everywhere.

What a great thought! God says, “Nothing is too big for Me. I have it handled.” The Bible says we will have struggles in life, but we must remember His promise—the Great I AM has overcome this world and everything in it. He proclaims the words “paid in full” over every follower of Christ.

The promise of Calvary still echoes through the universe today. We must declare it over our fears, our failures, our regrets, our suffering, our sin—over everything.

I love the finality of the words “once and for all” in Romans 6:10. It is complete. Done! May we never forget the finished work of what Christ did for us on the cross. He took our place and died our death so that we can live each day in the freedom and the fullness of all He has for us.
