Doing Right and Caring for Creation

The prophet Amos paints a powerful picture: “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream” (Amos 5:24). Justice, in God’s heart, is not stagnant; it flows. It brings life and nourishes everything in its path.

Throughout Scripture, worship is never separated from how we live. God calls His people not only to sing and sacrifice, but to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. That humility reshapes how we see the world around us.

From the beginning, God entrusted humanity with a sacred calling. Made in His image, we were given dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26–28) and told to work it and keep it (Genesis 2:15). This dominion was never meant to be exploitation. It is stewardship that reflects God’s wise and generous care for what He called “very good.”

Creation care is not about perfection or pressure. It is about faithfulness. It is a posture of humility that says, “Lord, this is Yours.” When we reduce waste, grow something life-giving, protect water, or make thoughtful choices, we reflect His justice and mercy in tangible ways.

When our worship flows into how we care for the earth, justice begins to move like a river.

Where might God be inviting you to walk more humbly in how you care for His creation?

Prayer Prompt

Gracious God, help us to walk humbly with You by caring for Your creation with justice and mercy. Open our eyes to see how our choices affect the earth and the vulnerable and give us the courage to live as faithful stewards of Your life-giving world. Amen.
