Reflection
Acts 24 slows the story down, but the pressure does not ease. Paul now stands before Felix, a Roman governor skilled in delay tactics and self-interest. Accusations are carefully crafted. Paul is presented as a troublemaker and a threat to public order.
Paul responds calmly. He does not manipulate the truth or soften his faith. He speaks honestly about justice, self-control and the coming judgement. These are not comfortable topics, especially for someone in power.
Felix is intrigued, even disturbed. He listens but he does not respond. Instead, he postpones. Paul remains imprisoned, not because of guilt, but because Felix hopes for a bribe and wants to keep others happy.
Two years pass. Two years of waiting. Two years of uncertainty. Just imagine that!
Felix senses truth, but refuses to act on it. Awareness without response becomes avoidance. Paul, meanwhile, remains faithful without any signs of visible progress.
Acts 24 challenges our understanding of fruitfulness. Faithfulness is not always measured by movement or success. Sometimes it is measured by endurance. Paul continues to witness, even when nothing seems to change.
Challenge
Is there someone that you’re witnessing to that doesn’t seem to respond at all? Keep being faithful. Remember that faithfulness may not always look fruitful.
Prayer
God, help me to be faithful to who you have called me to share faith with.
Give me the strength to keep taking opportunities to share about who you are even though it may feel that nothing is happening.
Amen.
