Bible Reflections From Scripture Union Volume OneSample

For His Glory
Read Leviticus 8:1-36
So he consecrated Aaron and his garments and his sons and their garments. Leviticus 8:30
A new house with new furniture and appliances, but without occupants, is only a furnished building. It’s the family or the people who live in it who will transform it into a home.
Today’s text shows that the Tent of Meeting becomes complete with the ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests. In the book of Exodus, God instructed Moses to build the Tabernacle, and in earlier chapters of Leviticus, God specified all the offerings. The priests must follow the regulations, so that the people are fit to meet God.
The ceremony was witnessed by all the people. The rituals prescribed showed that holiness comes from God alone, and not from being priests. The people observed as Moses dressed Aaron up in his high priestly garments, and put on special clothing on his sons. The ordination offerings pointed to Aaron and his sons’ need for cleansing before they could help the people to be clean. The application of blood on their right ears, right thumbs and right toes would remind them that God expected their hearing, working and walking to bring praise to His name.
The priestly system was God’s concession to His people’s inability to relate to Him. The priests stood in the gap. Again and again they sacrificed sin offerings for the people, but the outcome was only a temporary relief to a conscience burdened with sin. This caused a longing for the One whose blood could take away guilt and sin. Praise God for the Lamb of God, who is our High Priest.
Through Him we have access to God.
Let’s pray for each other as we struggle to keep our ears, hands and feet clean.
How do we keep them worthy for the Lord’s praise?
