Midnight Prayers

DAY 4 OF 5

Prayer Is Personal

Have you ever heard someone say, “Don’t take it personally”?

A friend might say, “It’s nothing personal.” A supervisor might tell you it isn't personal right before they let you go from a job. Even if we don't like it, the advice itself is probably wise.

We shouldn't take everything personally, where we take offence from every comment or action someone makes towards us.

That’s usually good advice in life—but when it comes to prayer, it’s the opposite.

Prayer should be personal.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:6:

“When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father… who sees what is done in secret.”

Prayer isn’t about impressing people. It’s not about saying the perfect words. It’s not about sounding spiritual.

It’s about being real with God.

God already knows everything about you—your thoughts, your struggles, your mistakes, your fears.

And He still wants to hear from you.

That means you can talk to Him about anything.

Good days. Bad days. Confusion. Frustration. Joy. Doubt.

Look at David in the Psalms—he held nothing back. And neither should you.

This doesn't mean that all prayer needs to be private, and any public prayer is wrong. What this means is that prayer is, and should be, personal and intimate to you. It's a relational connection between your Heavenly Father and you, His most beloved creation.

Prayer is a conversation, not a performance. So whatever is going on in your life, whether everyone knows it or no one knows it. You can pray about it. God knows. It's personal to Him, and it should be personal to you as well.

You don’t need perfect words—just an honest heart.

Reflection: When you pray, are you being real—or just saying what sounds right?

About this Plan

Midnight Prayers

This devotional invites you into a deeper, more authentic understanding of prayer—not as a routine, but as a personal connection with God made possible through Jesus. Through relatable moments and reflection, it underscores the Bible's emphasis that prayer is about gratitude, trust, and relationship—not just requests. It challenges you to move from treating prayer as a last resort to making it your first response. With a focus on authenticity, you're reminded that prayer isn’t about perfect words, but a real and honest heart.
