DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: Anointed For Greatness - Trusting God's Choices

Key verse:

"He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance. With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand." - Psalm 78:70-72 (ESV)

God looks beyond outward appearances to the heart, as vividly illustrated in David's anointing. Samuel, mourning the rejection of Saul, is directed to Jesse's household, where human expectations are overturned. The elder sons, impressive in stature and presence, are passed over because God prioritizes inner character over external qualifications. This moment underscores a profound truth: divine selection often defies societal norms, choosing the overlooked shepherd boy tending sheep in obscurity.

David's story challenges us to reconsider how we view ourselves and others. In a world that values resumes, appearances, and achievements, God's perspective invites us to cultivate hearts aligned with His will. The Spirit rushing upon David signifies empowerment for the task ahead, reminding us that God's anointing equips us beyond our natural abilities. It's a call to humility, recognizing that our worth stems from His choice, not our merits.

Ultimately, this anointing foreshadows Christ's own humble beginnings and heart-centered mission. Just as David was pulled from the fields to lead a nation, we too are invited into God's greater purposes, regardless of our starting point. Embracing this truth fosters patience in waiting seasons and confidence in His sovereign plans.

Reflection/ Activation

What "hidden" qualities in your life might God be calling you to use?
How can you trust His timing over societal expectations?

Prayer:

Lord, like David, help me to see myself through Your eyes. Anoint me for the purpose You've designed, and give me a heart that seeks You first. Amen.

About this Plan

Character | Metamorpho

This five-day plan about character is designed to help us understand the difference between good and bad character, and to recognize that true, lasting character is shaped by abiding in Christ. Drawing from scripture, we explore what character is, what influences it, where to find examples of godly character, and how we can grow in Christlike character moving forward. As we remain connected to Jesus, His character is formed in us, producing fruit that reflects who we are as His followers.
