Stillness

DAY 4 OF 21

DRAWING NEAR

Have you ever felt like your prayers were bouncing off the ceiling? Like you're doing the right thing — finding the time, using the right words — but something feels distant, rehearsed, performative?

That feeling is more common than we admit. And it's worth naming, because the enemy of prayer isn't busyness or distraction. The enemy of prayer is the belief that you have to get it right first.

Hebrews 4:16 is a stunning invitation: come boldly to the throne of grace. Not tentatively. Not apologetically. Boldly. But the reason for that boldness has nothing to do with us — it has everything to do with Him. We don't approach confidently because we're impressive. We approach confidently because Jesus has made the way.

Prayer isn't a performance to be evaluated. It's a relationship to be entered. It doesn't require perfect words, unbroken focus, or an elevated emotional state. It requires one thing: drawing near.

Jesus himself regularly withdrew to quiet places not to summon a distant God, but to remain close to the One He was already near to.

When prayer feels hard, you don't need more technique. You need to come closer. Sit down. Breathe. Let the words be imperfect. Let the silence stretch. What you're doing isn't nothing — you are drawing near. And the One on the throne isn't indifferent. He sees you. He leans in. He is gracious.

Have you ever felt like your prayers bounce? They don't. Every word, every silence, every whispered name — they reach Him. Because you already have access, thanks to Jesus’ work on the cross. Come boldly today.

Reflection: What would change in your prayer life if you stopped trying to get it right and simply focused on drawing near to a God who is already close?

Call to Action: Spend five minutes in prayer today without preparing anything. Simply sit in silence and say, 'I am here.' Let that be enough.

Prayer: Father, I come — not with impressive words but with an honest heart. Thank You that You don't require me to have it all together before I can draw near. I come boldly today, because of Jesus. Amen.

About this Plan

Stillness

Join us for 21 days of prayer and fasting as we reflect on what it means to be STILL and quiet ourselves before God. In a world that never stops moving, stillness can feel like a luxury we can't afford. But stillness is biblical. Psalm 46:10 encourages us “Be still and know that I am God!” Each day explores a different dimension of what it means to be truly still — this is not passive, but an intentional decision to stay connected to God and be sensitive to what His Spirit is doing and saying.
