KEEP GOING

DAY 5 OF 5

With His Strength

“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage,” Psalm 84:5 NIV.

We all need the Lord's strength, and all of us who are believers have the blessedness of having our strength in Him. This is a truth that cannot be denied. What happens, then, when we feel ourselves fainting, when we barely have the courage to continue facing our struggles and circumstances?

I think we have all experienced that feeling of weakness that reminds us we are human, because as Hannah, the mother of Samuel the prophet, said: “It is not by strength that one prevails.”1 Samuel 2:9b The good thing is that this truth is accompanied by another much larger and more wonderful truth: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak,” Isaiah 40:28-29 NIV.

Strengthening ourselves in the Lord and in His mighty power is wise counsel from the Word for all believers. But how do I strengthen myself in the Lord? In what way do I acquire divine strength? Well, the first thing we need to know is that He is the source of power from which I receive power for my life.

If God is in me, then I partake of His strength. By faith, I receive a divine fortitude that works in all my circumstances. The Word teaches me and reminds me that He is my fortress and that I can count on His strength.

When the Bible says that God is the one who arms us with strength, it is using a poetic figure to describe how God surrounds us with His power. Knowing that in the midst of our weakness we can feel strong, but not only feel it, but be it, is a great relief. This wonderful truth gives us peace and leaves no room for us to boast in ourselves. On the contrary, we glorify Him because He is the Almighty, and we are more than blessed to count on His holy strength.

Draw near to the Lord in humility, tell Him how you feel, and ask Him that His Holy Spirit quicken you, strengthen you, and infuse you with His breath. Go to His Word, feed your soul, and walk through His promises; it is a good place to be revived, to drink of His water, and to keep walking.

I hope this plan has been a blessing for you.
