DAY 1 OF 5

DAY 1 - CHOICE TO MAKE

Coaching is about creating a compass that keeps a team steady through any storm. Great coaches shape athletes who choose discipline over impulse, integrity over ease, and purpose over pressure.

A moment from my own coaching journey:
We were fighting for a playoff spot in the National MU14 competition in the Netherlands. My most talented player broke our team agreements. I had a choice - let him play to boost our chances, or sit him down and stand for integrity.
Parents pressured me. My Athletic Director expected him to play. The weight was real.

But saying YES to playing him would mean saying NO to everything I was teaching those boys about character.
So I benched him.
The criticism came: angry parents, frustrated fans, calls from the AD. People whispered that I didn’t care about winning.

It hurt — but Jesus’ words became real:

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” (John 15:18, NIV)

Saying YES to Jesus always means saying NO to the world.

REFLECTION
• Where are you being pressured to fit in?
• What decision in front of you is testing your integrity?
• What does a faithful YES to Jesus look like today?

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You chose me out of the world. Give me strength to stand in the light even when others walk away. May my yes be to You alone. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
John 15:18–19
Matthew 5:10–11
1 Peter 4:12–14
1 John 2:15–16
