Who Is He? Who Are We?Sample

When Jesus said, “I am the light of the world,” He wasn’t just describing what He does; He was revealing who He is. Those two words, “I am,” carry deep significance. They echo God’s words to Moses in Exodus 3:14: “I AM WHO I AM.” In that moment, Jesus was declaring His divine identity as God Himself, the eternal, self-existent One who brings life and truth. This truth about Jesus directly shapes how we understand our own identity. In a culture where identity is often built on shifting opinions or achievements, Jesus offers something unshakable. Because He is the great “I AM,” we don’t have to live searching for who we are; we can receive our identity from the One who never changes. His “I AM” defines your “I am.” When Jesus says, “I am the light of the world,” He’s not only revealing His nature, He’s inviting you to walk in His light so you can see yourself clearly. In His presence, lies about your worth are exposed, and truth brings freedom. You’re not defined by fear, failure, or comparison; you’re defined by His truth.
Identity in Christ means walking with confidence, not because of who you are on your own, but because of who He is within you. Just as Jesus knew where He came from and where He was going (John 8:14), you can live with assurance that your life has direction and purpose when it’s anchored in Him. In a world of uncertainty, Jesus’ words remind us that our identity is not self-created, it’s God-given. The One who said, “I AM,” speaks over you: “You are Mine.”
Reflection Questions
1. What change would take place in your life if your identity were fully anchored in who Jesus says He is?
2. How might walking in His light shift the way you see yourself?
3. Where might God be inviting you to stop striving for identity and start resting in His truth?
