Who Is He? Who Are We?

DAY 7 OF 21

Jesus’ timing is divine from the Father; He moves when He wants to. Our calling is to trust His timing. When He speaks, He speaks with divine authority. Our calling is to submit to His authority. He offers us His divine spirit. Our calling is to invite His Spirit into our lives.

Trust His timing - John 7:1-10

Jesus moves by the timing of the Father. He does not act because of pressure, pride, or human expectation. In this passage, we see how there is tension as Jesus is sought out to be killed. Some also wonder if He will arrive at the feast. (V.6) This highlights the idea that Jesus' timing is divine. He is not idle but wise. We have to trust His timing and lay every one of our cares at His feet.

Submit to His Authority - John 7:14-24

Jesus has a divine authority invested in Him by the Father. He tells us that His word will correct us as we listen to what He has spoken. He calls us as Christians to look beyond what appearances can say to us, but to judge correctly (V.24). Many of us as Christians acknowledge the authority of God and even agree with His statements; however, authentic discipleship is about putting obedience first.

Invite His Spirit - John 7:37-39

Jesus gives us the gift of His Spirit, which will quench our spiritual thirst. The Spirit will not only quench our thirst but will overflow into the lives of others as we draw nearer to Him. Verses 37-39 show us the simple invitation Jesus has for us to not just come to Him, but come drink from Him and let Him live through us.

In John 7, we gain a deeper understanding of who Jesus truly is as the Son of God. The Word made flesh, a God whose timing is divine, teaches with divine truth, and fills us with His divine spirit. To follow Him is to trust and submit to Him in all areas of our lives.

All of us as believers should ask ourselves the following question. Am I fully surrendered to His timing, His authority, and His Spirit? In these coming weeks, reflect on your relationship with our savior, seek a posture of submission, and rejoice in the ways your relationship with the Father will grow.
