Making a Case for PurposeSample

Making a Case for Purpose

DAY 2 OF 5

Purpose Begins with God

Devotional

The first truth you must embrace about purpose is this: you cannot define yourself. A creation cannot declare its function without consulting its Creator. Only God—the One who formed you, shaped you, and breathed life into you—has the authority to determine why you exist.

Many people spend their entire lives living out other people’s expectations. Some carry the weight of parental pressure. Others were shaped by society’s definitions of success. Some live in reaction to pain, trauma, or insecurity. But purpose cannot be discovered by looking around or looking within. It is discovered by looking upward—toward God.

Before you were born, God already knew who you would be, how you would be wired, and the contribution you would make to the world. Your gifts, personality, weaknesses, strengths, experiences, and even your story were deliberately permitted by God for a reason. There is not a single human God created without intention. Not one life is an accident. Not one birth is meaningless.

Even those born under painful or complicated circumstances are not mistakes in the eyes of God. Purpose exists because God designed it—not because the situation cooperated with it. Your origin story doesn’t disqualify you; it simply becomes a platform for God’s glory.

When you detach purpose from God, you fall into confusion. People who try to define their purpose apart from God end up abusing their potential, misusing their gifts, or chasing empty ambitions. God alone sees the complete picture—past, present, and future. That is why only He can reveal why you were made.

Purpose is not something you “decide.” It is something you discover. God is the reference point. His intention is the blueprint. His design is the compass. He did not create you casually; you carry His image and reflect His heart. You are here because He intentionally placed you here.

Prayer

Father, reconnect my heart to Your intention for my life. Silence every false voice and let me hear only Yours. Reveal what You had in mind when You made me. Amen.

About this Plan

Making a Case for Purpose

Every human must eventually confront the question of purpose—Why am I here? Purpose gives direction, identity, focus, and satisfaction. Without it, life becomes routine, empty, and easily influenced by confusion or deception. God, the Creator, remains the only true source of a person’s purpose. This 5-day devotional will help you understand why purpose matters, how it shapes your destiny, and how to begin living intentionally according to God’s design.
