Blessed Are the Spiraling: 7-Days to Finding True Significance When Life Sends You Spiraling

DAY 1 OF 7

Intro: Letting Go and Finding Treasure

If you’ve ever felt lost, confused, afraid, or unsure which way is up, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too. For me, spiraling didn’t arrive quietly. It showed up like a storm: in the dark nights when sleep wouldn’t come, in the questions too heavy to hold, in the fear that maybe my best days were behind me and the path forward was disappearing.

Maybe your spiral came through a crisis, a diagnosis, a loss, or a change you never saw coming. Or maybe it came through something good—a graduation, a new job, an unexpected shift that still left you strangely disoriented. Spiraling doesn’t discriminate. Blessings and burdens can both knock the wind out of you.

But here’s what Jesus teaches us about moments like these: sometimes the greatest treasures are discovered in the most unexpected fields. In Matthew 13:44, He tells a story about a man who stumbles across treasure buried in a field he wasn’t even looking in. The moment he sees its value, everything changes. He sold everything he had to buy the land that possessed the buried treasure. His priorities shift. His decisions simplify. What once felt important suddenly doesn’t. The discovery of treasure reframes the entire landscape of his life.

That’s what spiraling can do. What feels like unraveling may actually be the moment you uncover what’s truly valuable. The very questions that terrify you—Who am I? What matters now? What if I’ve peaked?—might be the shovel God is using to reveal the treasure. The true Treasure. It is easy to mistake accomplishment, status, abilities, or accolades as treasure and attach them to our identity. They all are potential barriers to obtaining the true Treasure in that next season— the true Treasure of Jesus.

It was in my midlife crisis that I had to discover the power of repeatedly laying down my life and selling what I had so I could hold the Treasure. This is what it means to grow. Transform. Adapt. I had to die daily, and when I did, there was always new Treasure to find in the wounds and worth of Jesus.

The good news is this: a spiral goes both ways. The same momentum that pulls you down can, in God’s hands, lift you into clarity, purpose, and joy. This five-day journey is an invitation to lift your eyes, steady your steps, and discover that the treasure isn’t behind you or beyond you.

My hope is that by the end of these five days, you’ll not only catch your breath—you’ll catch a glimpse of the beautiful, upward spiral God is writing into your story.
